ATV 2: Yeller
2004.5 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O.

Yeller, a Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O., represents some of the best possible features of a trail ATV - IRS, power, on-demand AWD, belt braking system, utility and comfort. My wife purchased it with me to go riding with me on weekends, something we can do together especially during the fall, winter and spring months. Mere originally wanted the 400cc version but me being a motorhead, I held out for the 500 H.O. since I know it's not so easy to get more power and torque reliably if it's desirable - and it's desirable!

Besides, the quad will only go as fast as you ask it to. But just as important to me in recommending this choice to my wife is that this quad is actually lighter than the 400cc version! Those in the know will note that it's the wheel and tire choice for the 2004.5 update to the 500cc version that makes the difference... but even with the heavier wheel/tire setup from the 2004, it would weigh the same as a 400cc quad. But, with another 15hp or so!

We're happy with the choice. It's very comfortable, rides a trail like a king and is very simple to operate, which Mere appreciates. The winch is good for hauling my silly butt out of mud/snow/ditches/etc. as well. :)

Known Stock Performance

It hardly matters, does it? This quad is for fun and comfortable trail riding. Performance is surprising, all the same. Very snappy and upon comparing it with a friend's Rubicon 500 it's a rocket, more comfortable and easier to ride. It'll tow a fair bit too.
